Question of the Week!

Alright, so this week I decided to participate in the Multiples and More Question of the Week. Since we are often asked about the boys names, I figured this would be a good way to answer!

How did you choose your multiples' names?

  • Did you stick with family names? We didn't stick with family names for first names, but LT has my father in-laws name as his middle name and BP has my father's name as his middle name. We wanted to do something to honor the grandparents, but we wanted different first names for them.
  • How do you feel about "matchy" names? Matchy names are great for some people, just not us. We wanted the boys to know that we don't see them as one, but as two separate people, both for when they do great things and when they don't.
  • Did you worry about their names "coordinating?" We didn't worry at all about them coordinating. For us it was more important that the boys had strong names, meaning they meant something good. We had several names that we liked the sound of, but they didn't have a good meaning, so we didn't choose them.
  • Did you name your babies before you met them, or wait until you saw them to assign names? We always knew that LT would be the first out and BP the second. I don't know why, but it always fitted in our minds.
  • What were your second choices? We didn't have any other choices, in fact we didn't have our second name until right before we delivered. We had a hard time picking a second boy name!
  • Did you consider the popularity of a name as a deciding factor? We considered the popularity within our family, but not as a whole. The names we picked are the first in our family, but they are far from unpopular!

I answered the exact same way for the "matchy" name question. Not for us! :) You said it better though about how you want them to be individuals. I just didn't want every one to gush over the cute matchy twins. Gah. I've spent some time looking through your blog. Thanks for letting me have a peek at your family. :)
